Annual Asbestos Notification

In compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1988 (AHERA), a copy of CKSD’s Asbestos Management Plan is available in the main office of each school. A master copy is available in the Grounds, Maintenance, and Custodial Office.

During the 2018-19 school year, asbestos abatement was conducted at the old Central Kitsap Middle School in preparation for demolition. Various abatement activities occurred throughout the district at AHERA sites that received the security entrance upgrades. Abatement occurred at AHERA sites in areas where the permanent bottle fillers were installed. Some tile was also abated from three locations at Esquire Hills where there was water damage.

The AHERA building inspections, which are required to be done every three years, were conducted during the summer of 2019.

Anticipated projects for the 2019-20 school year include the required six-month periodic surveillances, which will be conducted during the winter and summer breaks.

During 2019-20, the old Central Kitsap High School will undergo abatement in preparation for demolition. There may be continued abatement at various AHERA sites that have not yet received the security entrance upgrades.
